That is more evident with big objects. I have face the issue in VSF with surface objects.
The visibility depends on the direction you look from. The distance seems to be calculated from the object coordinates, and this point is not the center, but rather its down-left corner. You can see the object from the distance, fly over it, and suddenly it dissapears just under your plane.
Then I took this as a given.
