Re: STW and SOG Errors
Welcome to the forum, Mtaylor. I haven't done a lot of navigating in NG using set and drift, but I have noticed some anomalies as you've noted. Perhaps related to this is that after installing the latest update to NG (10/31/23), I noticed that vessels at anchor no longer respond to the wind as befor...

Re: New free addons available1/3
Rakom, I am absolutely speechless! This is an incredible masterpiece and sets a new level of immersive beauty in VSNG. As the former owner of the 10m Nauticat motorsailer ketch Windsor Knot, so carefully modeled by the late Steve Sharp, I can't conceive of a more perfect vessel and scenery to explor...

Re: Honoring the Legacy of Ilian Papini and Virtual Sailor NG
I don't have a link to the Discord server, per se...but here's the link to Sim3D where there is a direct link to their Discord Server which has an active VSNG group of over 400. That server also has a Navismaster thread, working on creation of a new nautical simulator. There are quite a few old VSer...

There is also a dedicated Discord thread for VSNG, and the Sim3D website hosts a large inventory of NG vessels and scenery.

Yes to all. You can populate a 'situation' with numerous ships and move between them, leaving them on autopilot as appropriate. You can also import AI traffic. When you save that situation, you can resume at any time.

Re: Purchased the game, no feedback
Sadly, I don't think there is anyone to help you. As you noted, Ilan Papini was killed in a plane crash. He was the sole programmer/proprietor of VS, VSF, VSNG and other apps. So far as I know, his website is dead. I don't believe any of his family members are stepping in to rejuvenate HangSim. I wo...

Click Shift-E, and you engage reverse...click Shift-E again, and you engage forward.
There used to be an option to choose throttle mode, allowing > 50% throttle engages forward, < 50% throttle engages reverse...50% throttle is 'neutral'. Not sure if that still works.

Re: Bow Wave and Wake Trouble - Assistance Request
Hi Kevin and Pascal First, yes I can see all of Pascal's posts, as well as Kevin's. And Pascal, thanks for the Pinnace...it's a great way to admire the Wyoming from the waterline. I cloned Wyoming and renamed it "USS_Wyoming_BB32" to avoid interaction with the original model. Everything wo...

Re: Bow Wave and Wake Trouble - Assistance Request
Merci, Pascal I did download the Model Converter X, and set out to prove to myself that I'm not too old to learn new tricks. It was pretty easy to learn with your excellent tutorial above. I was able to reset the axes on USS Wyoming after a little trial and error. Using all the actual real world spe...

Re: Bow Wave and Wake Trouble - Assistance Request
That's major progress, Kevin. Make sure X,0 is centered on keel, and Y,0 is at bottom of keel. You have ship centered on waterline. It should be raised so that Y, 0 is at bottom of keel, not waterline. Pretend axis is a drydock and ship is being built from drydock upwards. Z,0 should be at or nearly...

Re: Bow Wave and Wake Trouble - Assistance Request
Kevin, to see your coordinates wherever you are on the ship, click on 'views' in the drop-down Change menu. That shows your XYZ position as you move. I did install the ship, but as Pascal points out, ship is offset from center and cannot function properly until it is moved so that Y origin is at bas...

Re: Bow Wave and Wake Trouble - Assistance Request
In game, place yourself aboard the ship (click F1). If you haven't already set coordinates for 'pilot' or 'camera', you should be at XYZ, 0 origin. Using numpad arrows, move forward to extreme bow and record your Z position. Then move back to stern and record your Z position. Add the Z values, and t...

Re: Bow Wave and Wake Trouble - Assistance Request
There's a lot to process here. It's hard to diagnose the problem without either a copy of the model, or answers to my previous questions about the axis orientation. Where is Y,0 on the model? If the Y origin is not nearly amidships, and at the bottom of the keel, the vessel will not work properly in...

Re: Bow Wave and Wake Trouble - Assistance Request
Ahoy Kevin Saw your post on this issue over at FB. I'm using my wife's (Bev) account (I hate FB); I mentioned a few things to check. I wonder if these warships are modeled on a different axis? To work properly in NG, the Y,0 axis should be at the bottom of the keel, centered on Z axis so that positi...

Open the folder for that vessel, click on Vehicle.cfg and look for splash threshold. Increase the value of splash threshold; check result ingame, and adjust threshold as necessary.

Re: Manual and Auto Sailing
My pleasure, Blue I'm over 80, but sailing is still in my blood. We still have a motorsailer, and I've had over 50 boats...up to 54'. Learned to sail as a pre-teen in an ancient, leaky sailing canoe...bail and sail. Did intercollegiate sailing in International 12 1/2s, and 24' Ravens, where our crew...

Re: Manual and Auto Sailing
Hmmm...where to start. Have you sailed in the RW? Or is NG your first exposure to sailing? You can learn the basics of sailing in an hour; becoming a proficient sailor takes years, if not a lifetime. You learn something new every time you go out. First thing, the wind you see on the boat is the appa...

Re: Decreasing ship speed
Some of us have also encountered the same problem, especially with Axe's wonderful 2500TEUFeeder. It's related to a recent VSNG update which created a 'viscosity level' on the Graphics tab. Viscosity is supposed to slow reaction to control inputs at low speeds; on my PC it was 0.13 by default. I sug...

Re: VS NG performance failures
ChristianH, I see that you are running both the Hangsim download version and Steam version of NG. Are you able to nest both .exe files in the same NG folder, or did you have to create 2 full NG folders? I'm running latest Hangsim licensed 9.9.8, but cannot get Axe's latest 2500TEU to work properly.....

That is not a bug. It seems reasonable to me that the creator of the simulation who continues to update and upgrade it, deserves rewards for his time and effort. I knew from the outset that after 2 years, if you changed your pc, hard drive, or other major component, you'd have to repurchase. I've ha...

Re: Vehicle element units
The only unit is time, in seconds, as set by user/modeler. And it seems that beyond 5 digits, the program does not calculate fuel time...you're always 100%. I wish we could change seconds to minutes, allowing for much more realistic fuel endurance on larger vessels.

Re: Bumper collision and Rope tension
I agree that maneuvering alongside piers is still overly sensitive to bumping and line tension, and I've frequently messed up what seemed like a perfect mooring while simply adjusting lines. Wish it weren't so. You're certainly on the right track by adjusting bumpers, and making sure no points excee...

Re: VS NG performance failures
Let's not forget that VSNG runs a much more robust engine for water graphics than VSF...displacement waves...bow splash...adjustable wave length...AI traffic...etc. That places a greater demand on processing fps, so when you compare the same scenario in VSF versus VSNG...it's apples and oranges. I s...

Welcome aboard, Whippy. It appears that somehow your water level settings have been raised. Try clicking "W" (Weather) tab ingame, and make sure sea level slider is set at 0...no plus values. That should put you back at designed scenery level.

These features already exist in both VSF and VSNG. Take a look at the Humber scenery, the Travemunde scenery, and the highly detailed and animated SW_Europe sceneries as examples. You'll see animated bridges, locks, and moving vehicles (vessels, aircraft, and trucks).

Sean, way back in the dark ages of VS and MF, former member jt3d (his avatar was the pirate cat with patch over one eye) sailed Joshua Slocum's "Spray" around the world in real-time, following the actual route. That took a lot of pc time, always running in the background! A few years ago, ...
