Getting ASTER data into VSF?

Postby DistortAMG » Sun Mar 02, 2014 1:53 pm

I am currently working on a scenery for VSF.

I have managed to download the SRTM3 data and successfully import it into VSF no problem.

The SRTM3 data is only freely available in a 3 arcsec / 90m resolution.

I have downloaded the freely available ASTER GDEM data which is available in a much highr 1 arcsec / 30m resolution. The problem is this data is in .tiff format and not .tif, which means I cannot import it into 3DEM and convert it for use with VSF. Is there any way I can convert this ASTER data into SRTM so I can use in 3DEM and then VSF, and take full advantage of the higher resolution?

Finally, my scenery does not have any underwater depth, how would I go about putting a depth map into my scenery so that my scenery has variations in its dept, true to life.

Thanks

They seem to have exactly what I am looking for here, but the download link to 'ASTERbatch' does not work, anyone got this tool?

Check this thread, especially regarding depth...viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1457

Ron did an exemplary tutorial on editing DEM for depth; it's available at VSF download site.
